Drug Possession 

Drug possession involves having a controlled drug in your custody or control without lawful authority. Under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, it is an offence to possess a substance classified as Class A, B or C unless it is lawfully prescribed or otherwise authorised. 

Penalties depend on the class of drug and the circumstances. Sentences can range from a conditional discharge or fine to community orders and imprisonment. For example, possession of a Class A drug carries a maximum sentence of up to seven years’ imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.
