Distribution of Malware or Ransomware 

Under the Computer Misuse Act 1990, it is an offence to create, supply or obtain articles, including software or code, for use in computer misuse offences. Distributing malware or ransomware may also involve unauthorised access, impairment of systems or data, or blackmail-related offences depending on the circumstances. 

Penalties can be severe. Depending on the charge and harm caused, sentences can include substantial fines and lengthy custodial terms. More serious offences involving impairment of computer systems or significant financial harm can carry sentences of up to 10 years or more.
